Concept Métal, your supplier of copper-aluminum
The copper-aluminum is a copper-aluminum and aluminum that is characterized by high mechanical strength and excellent resistance to corrosive environments. These characteristics make it the material of choice for high-stress components exposed to seawater or chemical environments.
What is copper-aluminum?
The copper-aluminum is a metal alloy in which copper is the base element, combined with 5 to 12 percent aluminum, and often supplemented with iron, nickel, or manganese to enhance its properties. This combination results in a material that is significantly stronger than traditional copper alloys .
The nuances of the most common have the following characteristics:
- high mechanical strength, enhanced by forging or heat treatment
- excellent corrosion resistance, including in seawater
- good resistance to wear and friction
- stability in humid and harsh environments
Depending on the grade selected: CuAl10Ni5Fe4, CuAl10Fe3Mn2 or CuAl11Fe5Ni5, the copper-aluminum offers either high mechanical strength or excellent corrosion resistance, depending on the specific application.

The Properties of Copper-Aluminum
Corrosion Resistance
This is the key property of copper-aluminum. When exposed to air or water, it forms a protective oxide layer that limits the material’s degradation. This exceptional resistance in marine and chemical environments explains its use in pumps, valves, and offshore equipment.
Mechanical Strength
Compared to other copper alloys, copper-aluminum alloy offers significantly higher mechanical strength, which is further enhanced when forged or after heat treatment. It is therefore suitable for parts subjected to heavy loads while maintaining good dimensional stability.
Wear resistance
The copper-aluminum also offers good wear resistance, which is useful for components subject to repeated contact. For purely anti-friction applications, however, one would turn to bronze.
What are the industrial applications for copper-aluminum?
Because of its strength and corrosion resistance, copper-aluminum alloy is used in many industries to manufacture:
- parts for pumps and valves used in marine environments
- hydraulic components and offshore equipment
- mechanical parts subject to heavy stress
- components for the chemical and energy industries
- corrosion-resistant aerospace parts
