Concept Métal, your supplier of specialty metals
Specialty metals are materials with rare and often irreplaceable properties: extreme corrosion resistance, resistance to very high temperatures, biocompatibility, and superconductivity. Sourcing them requires expertise and a procurement network that few suppliers possess.
What are specialty metals?
The specialty metals distributed by Concept Métal metallic materials with unique properties, used in the most advanced industrial and scientific applications:
- Tantalum: exceptional corrosion resistance
- Hafnium: Neutron Absorption for Nuclear Applications
- Zirconium: Performance in Corrosive and Nuclear Environments
- Vanadium: a high-performance alloying element
- Niobium: Superconductivity and Biocompatibility
- Rhenium: Mechanical Strength at Ultra-High Temperatures
Each of these metals has specific characteristics that make it suitable for very specific applications.

The Properties of Special Metals
Corrosion Resistance
Tantalum and zirconium are resistant to virtually all acids and corrosive chemical environments. They are used in reactors, heat exchangers, and piping in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries.
High-Temperature Resistance
Rhenium retains its mechanical properties at temperatures above 2,000 °C. Niobium and hafnium are also used in harsh thermal environments, particularly in the aerospace industry.
Nuclear and Superconducting Properties
Hafnium and zirconium play a key role in the nuclear industry. Niobium, thanks to its superconducting properties, is used in the magnets of MRI machines and particle accelerators.
What are the industrial applications for specialty metals?
Because of their unique properties, specialty metals are used in the most demanding industries for the manufacture of:
- Reactors and heat exchangers for the chemical industry
- components for nuclear reactors
- turbine blades and aerospace components
- medical implants and biocompatible devices
- superconducting magnets and research equipment
- catalysts for petroleum refining
