WLa

Tungsten-lanthanum

The tungsten-lanthanum alloy consists of varying proportions of tungsten (W) and lanthanum (La), depending on the specific requirements of each application. Here is a typical chemical composition for this alloy

  • Tungsten (W): Approximately 97% to 99%
  • Lanthanum (La): About 1% to 3%

Key Characteristics of the W-La Alloy

High density

Since tungsten is a heavy metal, the W-La alloy has a high density, making it ideal for applications that require high density.

Heat resistance

Tungsten-lanthanum retains the heat resistance of pure tungsten, making it suitable for high-temperature environments.

Improved Ductility

Adding lanthanum can improve the ductility of tungsten, making it easier to machine and form.

Applications of the W-La Alloy

Welding electrodes

The W-La alloy is widely used in the manufacture of TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) and plasma welding electrodes because of its heat resistance and high thermal conductivity.

Components for the lighting industry

Tungsten-lanthanum filaments are used in incandescent lamps because of their ability to withstand high temperatures and produce bright, stable light.

Aerospace and Nuclear Applications

Because of its heat and corrosion resistance, the W-La alloy is used in the manufacture of components for rocket engines, nuclear reactors, and other demanding applications.

Why choose the W-La alloy?

The tungsten-lanthanum alloy offers a unique combination of high density, heat resistance, and improved ductility, making it a preferred choice for many industrial applications.
